SoCoD-19 è un progetto artistico creato dalla collaborazione tra Biancoshock e Rolenzo.



I due artisti, utilizzando la tecnica del databending (un processo di manipolazione di un file multimediale di un determinato formato, utilizzando un software progettato per modificare file di un altro formato, per es. aprire un file audio con un programma che legge i testi), raccontano questo particolare momento storico attraverso un flusso di pensieri ed emozioni che danno vita a quello che definiscono un ‘blackout emotivo’.

Un nemico invisibile sta sconvolgendo la quotidianità di milioni di persone.
Il sistema globale si è ammalato, rallentando drasticamente i propri ritmi e restituendo alle persone il tempo per fermarsi ed ascoltarsi: in una società basata sulla frenesia, gli stati emotivi vengono soffocati.
Il distanziamento sociale imposto per limitare il contagio virale diventa un veicolo per scatenare un blackout emotivo altrettanto contagioso.



SoCoD-19 (Source Code Disease 2019) è un racconto aperto di persone che stanno vivendo un blackout comune ma intimamente diverso, che risveglia emozioni oppresse come la paura, la solitudine, l’ansia, i rimpianti, e che porta a pensare alla necessità di cambiamento e ad una nuova scala dei valori.



Accendendo alla pagina JOIN la fotocamera frontale del proprio cellulare si attiva automaticamente per scattare un selfie e, dopo averlo confermato, un form ci invita a descrivere con una frase il proprio blackout emotivo attuale.
Attraverso la tecnica del Databending l’algoritmo manipola la fotografia, elaborando il codice alfanumerico che la compone e inserisce all’interno di questo codice sorgente il blackout emotivo dell’utente. Ne consegue un blackout digitale che altera l’immagine creando un ritratto personale disturbato digitalmente dal proprio stato emotivo.



La pagina STREAM del sito offre da un lato un flusso di ritratti ‘contagiati’ da questo periodo storico, dall'altro i codici sorgente di fotografie contenenti i blackout emotivi che scorrono incessantemente in un infinito flusso. Si crea un flow di esperienze emotive, che rimarranno a posteriori per testimoniare una pandemia emozionale che ha spezzato democraticamente gli equilibri del mondo e dei loro abitanti.

SoCoD-19 is an artistic project created by Biancoshock and Rolenzo.
The two artists, using the Databending technique (the process of manipulating a multimedia file of a certain format, using software designed to edit files of another format, e.g. opening an audio file with a program that reads texts) , tell about this particular historical moment through a flow of thoughts and emotions that give life to what they define an ‘emotional blackout’.



An invisible enemy is upsetting the daily lives of millions of people.
The global system has fallen ill, drastically slowing down its rhythms and giving back to people the time to stop and listen to themselves. In a social system based on frenzy emotional states are inevitably repressed.
The social distancing imposed to limit the viral contagion becomes a vehicle to unleash an equally contagious emotional blackout.

SoCoD-19 (Source Code Disease 2019) is an open story of people who are experiencing a common but intimately different blackout, which awakens oppressed emotions such as fear, loneliness, anxiety, regrets, and which leads to think about the need of change and a new scale of values.

On the JOIN webpage the front camera of your smartphone is activated, and you can shot your selfie.
After confirming the selfie, a form invites you to describe with a sentence the personal emotional blackout perceived in that moment.
Through the Databending technique, the algorithm manipulates photography, processing the alphanumeric code that composes it and inserts the user's emotional blackout into this source code. The result is a digital blackout that alters the image by creating a personal portrait digitally disturbed by one's emotional state.

The STREAM webpage shows on one hand a flow of portraits 'infected' by this historical period, on the other the source codes of photos containing the emotional blackouts that flow incessantly.
We obtain a flow of emotional experiences, which will remain in the future to witness an emotional pandemic that has democratically broken the balance of the world and its inhabitants.

- Use your smartphone and go on www.socod19.com/join to partecipate
- ATTENTION: if you enter on the website through a Facebook/Instagram direct link, please, follow the instruction to switch on your Browser. Our program doesn’t support FB/IG direct link.
- Allow SoCoD-19 to activate your phone-camera and take your snapshot and fill in the text with your blackout, feel free to use your original language
- Click OK and don’t close the application until the end of the upload
- In a few your portrait will be included in the stream here: www.socod19.com/stream
- Inappropriated contents (photos and text) will be deleted
- The project protects the privacy of the participants, each portrait will be not associated to the emotional text entered.
